Cathy Allen, assistant director of nursing and the Florida Health Care Association’s RN of the Year

On May 28, 2015, the Florida Health Care Association named Cathy Allen, assistant director of nursing at Life Care Center of Orange Park, its RN of the Year.

The award was presented at the organization’s annual Nurse Leadership Program banquet held in St. Pete Beach. It recognizes significant achievement in resident care.

“Winning this award was so exciting and a huge surprise!” said Allen. “I was speechless.”

Allen was praised for her devotion to her residents and co-workers. During her time at Life Care Center of Orange Park, she has gone out of her way to come up with ways to make the residents’ experience better. She has been instrumental at the facility in training associates to safeguard residents at risk of falling. She also trains them in assessment skills so that nursing staff can handle more resident needs in-house and reduce the number of residents who have to go to the hospital.

“I love caring for people and the joy you get out of seeing people feel better and having a part in their recovery,” said Allen. “I really like working here at Life Care much better than working in the hospital because you really get to know the patients and their families.”
